About My Lesson Horses

Meet My Lesson Horses

Monarch

Monarch is a 16.2, 9 year old chestnut thoroughbred gelding. He is quiet, sensible and is known for being lazy when he wants to be. Monarch knows his job and does it well. The beginner riders know he will stop on command and the more experienced riders know if they insist he moves his lazy butt, he will give them a fabulous ride.

He’s fantastic to teach on because he’s so adaptable for the tall beginner to advanced rider. He does have bouncy movement and a much longer stride than the smaller Mooney. He and Mooney are like chalk and cheese.

Monarch has been enjoyed by adults returning to the saddle after time off, tall kids moving of their shorter mounts or those who prefer a slower albeit springier pace than Mooney. He’s the kind of horse everyone wants to take home because he’s just so pleasant and easygoing.

Monarch also has an 85kg weight limit for his riders. Learner riders can unintentionally bounce heavily on a horse’s back and we try to keep him comfortable by limiting the heavier riders.

Monarch thrives on carrots and will love you forever if you bring him one.

Mooney

15 year old Mooney has proven to be a very versatile horse. She is far from an old plodder although she is quiet, sensitive and responsive.

Mooney adapts well to beginners and experienced riders alike. She can go from cruising quietly to pocket rocket zoom zoom depending on your level of riding ability.

She works well on voice command in the round pen which really helps with beginners who need their confidence. More experienced riders find that she’s soft and responsive to ride and works beautifully in a frame should they know how to ask her! Mooney will teach you to ride correctly, not be a passenger.

Mooney enjoys forest rides and is now offering one on one forest trail ride experiences. What a way to enjoy yourself in the gorgeous surrounds on a private one on one trail ride.

If you’re goal is to learn groundwork, Mooney also enjoys being used as an example to create these special horse/human relationships.

Mooney has an 85kg rider weight limit as she’s a small, fine boned horse. Learner riders can unintentionally bounce heavily on a horse’s back and we try to keep her strong and comfortable by limiting the heavier riders.

Mooney loves bringing a smile to your face! If your goals are to learn the basics or advance your current skills, get a start on some groundwork, take a trail ride, give your kid a led pony ride or have regular riding lessons then Mooney is the horse for you!  If you give her carrots and cuddles she will be your best friend.

Ocean

Ocean is my personal horse. He’s a 17hh, 8 year old thoroughbred who weighs over 630kg and is built like a tank! Together we love hunting and trail riding. Our flatwork is good but it’s not what we enjoy the most. We like to explore!

Ocean is used for the occasional ridden lesson for my very experienced students. He’s an absolutely fabulous, soft and responsive ride but he’s sassy, quirky and at times full of himself. He’s actually quite well schooled and I do enjoy teaching on him because he responds well to those with independent seat and hands. Ocean  requires a rider with a sense of humour and good balance.

Ocean is often used for groundwork lessons as he’s super responsive and understands his job well. I use him to show people what they can aim towards when building a partnership with their horse. Groundwork with Ocean is like playing with an oversized but obedient puppy.

You can bring him a carrot or an apple, but he’d much rather chew your jacket hood, your hair or nibble your ear.
