Horse Training

About the training sessions

I think of horse training as building bridges between the horse and rider. Both you and your horse will most likely start at different places in your training. Sometimes the gap is large, sometimes it’s rather small.

An inexperienced rider will need lessons, a green horse will need training and miles under saddle. I can help you to bridge this gap by offering per week training at our facilities in Mt George in the Adelaide Hills.

The most effective training occurs when you are able to be involved in what I do with your horse, so I invite you to spend as much time with me as I work your horse as you possibly can. Of course you may send your horse to me to work without you being there. I will keep you updated with photos and videos as much as I possibly can. However if the option for you to attend these sessions is also a possibility then I highly recommend it.

A combination of lessons and training will give you a fantastic start together.

Most horses start with groundwork and work up to ridden work. Please contact me to discuss a personalised training plan for you and your horse.

  • groundwork & manners
  • slow work after injury, muscle building, rehab
  • work your horse while you’re on holiday
  • float training, loading and unloading
  • long reining
  • desensitisation and sensitisation (responsiveness)
  • OTT re-education
  • starting or restarting young horses
  • problem solving
  • working through anxiety issues
  • steering, bending and softness
  • indoor round yard, outdoor arena

Training Style

You do not have to do anything you don’t want to do and you will be made to feel safe and relaxed in an encouraging yet gently critiquing manner.

Kellie’s background is in hunting (jumping horses in a non competitive club environment) along with extensive trail riding and flatwork.

Kellie aims to create partnerships between horse and rider and is looking for kind and gentle riders and handlers to start their horse journey with her.

Approach

Kellie’s logical and commonsense approach to horsemanship is clear and easy to understand.

Riders will leave feeling refreshed and happy as Kellie understands that everyone is on a different journey and looking for personalised horse experiences.
